Headache Types
There are lots and lots of headache types plaguing people of all ages: tension headaches, migraines, organic headaches, rebound headaches, cluster headaches or hormonal headaches. The treatment can be symptomatic or cause-targeting. It so often happens that when pain strikes we take an aspirin, deal with the pain and put it all behind. The trigger might be over-work, stress, lack of sleep, starvation or a cold. Most people will get over such minor incidents quickly and without any problem.
The big issue is with those headache types that are so intense and pestering that they require a complex treatment approach. Medical and non-drug therapies are used in parallel for preventing, stopping or managing some of the most painful headaches possible. Cluster headaches are an example of the worst that could happen in terms of pain. They wake you up in the middle of the night with intense pain on one side of the head or around the eye. Sometimes the pain does not go away for weeks or months. Living with such a problem does indeed become problematic.
Organic headache types on the other hand are transitory and mild in manifestation. They accompany various health problems such as sinusitis, seasonal colds and even eyesight problems. An infection in the sinuses could cause headaches. The flu on the other hand can trigger fever accompanied by a mild headache. Such problems are likely to give in to symptomatic treatment, but you should get a doctor’s advice, and use prescription-based medication to prevent side effects and even drug interactions. These headache types go away without any inconvenience as the infection is defeated and the body recovers.
Migraines are also serious in terms of intensity. They cause significant pain for hours or even days, not to mention that they may be accompanied by digestive symptoms and sensitivity to light and sound as well. The severity and frequency of such headaches can be kept under control, but only a doctor can prescribe the right course of treatment. Lifestyle remedies and self-help cures can also prove efficient for such headache types, because the cause of migraines could be very close to home.
Tension and hormonal headache types should also be mentioned because of their high incidence rate. Tension-type headaches appear due to the contraction of the neck and head muscles resulting from incorrect body posture. Hormonal headaches on the other hand affect women only, and they are associated with the pre-menstrual syndrome, the use of oral contraceptives, pregnancy and menopause.
